The new moon

The storm is you. Something inside you. So all you can do is give into it, step right inside the storm…and walk through it, step by step. There is no sun there, no moon, no sense of time. Just fine white sand swirling up the sky like pulverized bones. - Haruki Murakami

A new moon arrived on Saturday. It met up with Gemini, the sign of the twin - the archetype of duality. This new moon sheds light on the shadow. It embraces integration of the yin and the yang, the light and the dark, the object and the shadow. We all have a shadow side that we would prefer to keep hidden, not only from others but from ourselves. We carry this shadow at our back like a storm. We reject it because it feels ugly and undesirable. We don’t accept what is perceived as flaws in ourselves because we believe we will be unloved and rejected. But until we embrace both our dark and our light with compassion and clarity we can not fully love ourselves. We need to carve an alliance with our full self to experience wholeness, to integrate and to grow. Our fear can become courage. Our selfishness can become self care. Our anger can become a call to action. What is un-lived in us can become soil for creativity. What is denied can be accepted. A new moon is a reminder that we are whole beings who are always evolving. We are what we can see and what we turn away from. We have both a front and a back, a past and a future. We are both rooting and rising, hidden and visible. We are both solid and fluid. And where these points meet, we live in relationship to ourselves and others. We can make more space for joy not only by letting go, but by receiving. Receive your voice. Receive your heart. Receive your fear and your hope and your passion and your truth. This is what it means to be alive. Meet yourself where you are. Lean in and the space will expand. Question and dive deep. Open closed doors. Turn on lights and embrace the shadows. Soften your focus and expand your gaze to see your Self - your whole Self, your full Self. Listen. Hear your dreams. Touch the underside of your story. Let it evolve. Grow. Trust. Accept. Be.
